On the way home from school today I asked Maddox what he did at school. He told me "all the kids decided to play playdoh and I played cars because I love cars". I asked "so you didn't play cars with anybody?" and he said "No, they decided to play playdoh". I asked him if he played with any kids today and he said "No, but I really wanted someone to play cars with me". I suggested that he should ask someone to play cars with him next time and he said that he was too shy. I suggested that he ask his teacher to help him ask someone to play cars with him and again, he said he was too shy.
It really frustrates me and makes me feel said and makes me feel helpless. I have tried REALLY hard these past, almost 4 years NOT saying the word shy or labeling him in front of him or to his face, WHERE did he learn "shy"? I spent my entire childhood feeling to shy to talk to anybody that didn't talk to me first and spent a lot of time playing by myself and I do not want that for him. I hate that feeling. And know I do not know what to do for him. I do not know how to encourage him to be more aggressive and to try to over him his shy feelings.
He also told me that he wanted someone to come to his house (after saying that he wanted someone to play cars with him). I though "well I can fix that!" and so I asked him if someone came to play at his house, who he wanted to come over. Turns out I cannot fix this problem, because he replied "one of my cousins". I asked him "Dante, Ariana, or Kaden?" just to make sure, because he has called Autumn his cousin before, and she is just a friend, but he answered yes and said that he liked Kaden the best - because "he is bigger but I am older!"
