Vaccine Information

In summary, this is a vaccination schedule that I would recommend:

1. No vaccinations until a child is two years old.
2. No vaccines that contain thimerosal (mercury).
3. No live virus vaccines (except for smallpox, should it recur).
4. These vaccines, to be given one at a time, every six months, beginning at age 2:

1. Pertussis (acellular, not whole cell)
2. Diphtheria
3. Tetanus
4. Polio (the Salk vaccine, cultured in human cells

American children are the most highly vaccinated kids in the world. This schedule is an alternative to the one that rules our "vaccine nation" (as the Village Voice terms it). In contrast to the CDC’s immunization schedule, it is user-friendly.

10 Years - Blood tests for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, and HepA immunity. Consider vaccinating if not immune. Also consider a 3-dose Polio if traveling to Africa or Asia is a possibility.
11 Years - HPV (3 doses, girls only).
12 Years - HepB (3 doses).

Vaccine refusals fuel jump in measles outbreaks

This article is really bothering me for a few reasons.

1. About 2 weeks ago a 10-Month Old child in my county was reported to have the measles. The fact that my 2-Month Old baby is at risk for measles is scary (Maddox has been vaccinated).

2. Doctors being frustrated about being asked questions about vaccines really ticks me off. Why should we be encouraged NOT to ask questions about our child's health and weird chemical concoctions that they want to insert into our child's body via a needle?

3. Why are we only limited to about 15 minutes (or less) per doctors visits (with the actual doctor, not including the waiting time, nurse time, waiting time, etc)? In the first 2 years a lot of stuff is going on and there may be a lot of stuff we need to talk about. After that, our children are only seen once a year unless they get sick. Is that REALLY enough time to cover all your concerns about your child's well being. The article talks about doctors being frustrated with parents getting crap information off the internet and TV, but in the same breath complains that we expect too much of their time?

And on Friday, August 15th, Maddox, Faye, and I met Aunty Amy, Dante, Ariana, and Kaden downtown and took the train to Minnehaha Falls for a swim.

2 Month Appointment

Faye had her 2 month appointment this morning. She's perfect, of course! She has been smiling for about 3 weeks, talking to us for around 4-5 weeks, holds her head up really well - the sheet said she should be able to temporarily hold her head up, but she can hold her head up just fine. She sits straight up with her head perfectly erect. She is doing everything that she is supposed to be doing! I discussed her drooling, spitting up, gassiness, etc. Got her a prilosec Rx that I am not going to fill yet. I'm trying to completely get rid of all dairy because it seems that she really acts up when I have it. Also corn makes her horribly gassy. So first I'm going to get all of that out of my system and than a week after that, I'll see how she is doing.

She weighed in at 11lbs and 22 inches. She received 3 shots and an oral vaccines. She did really well drinking the vaccine. She cried really hard for the shots and the nurse had to blow in her mouth to get her to start breathing again. The nurse circled the wrong dosage for her Ibuprofen and got twice as much as she was supposed to. I thought it was a lot and double checked the dosage that she circled. Later when I went to check the Tylenol I realized that the nurse had circled the wrong concentration. She had slept for 4 hours before I woke her up and than went to sleep for another hour after that until her cousin spoke too closely to her. She acted fine otherwise, but I still decided not to give her Tylenol when I realized she had way too much Ibuprofen. I gave her some Tylenol not too long ago though because she was fussy and her head was burning up. She had a temp of 100.2 and is just sweating like crazy. I hate vaccines.

So hubby is in Los Angeles right now - til Friday and I already miss him terribly. Just knowing that he will be gone all week makes me miss him and he's only been gone since 2PM today. I hope that he has a lot of fun and does a great job with the Fjorg contest.

Pelvic Girdle Pain

Someone posted this in the naturalbirth community and I found it interesting. After reading the symptoms of this, I believe I had a severe, one time occurrence of this. It gradually disappeared over a 12-24 hour period. I cannot even imagine having to deal with this on a daily basis, even if it is mild. Even when I could finally get my own clothes on, it was still horrible. We went out and did a little bit of shopping after I could move, pretty comfortably, by myself, but having to do that every day would be very painful.

Every time I would squat (throughout my entire pregnancy), I felt like my pelvis was splitting open. I wonder if that was part of the condition and it never got bad for me, except that one time...

Hip Check up

Faye had her check up appointment today at Gillette Children's. The doctor moved her hips around and then adjusted her harness (loosened it). He thinks that she will be all better by 6 weeks, so we should only have 4 more weeks left! I hope so, I'm so sick of this harness. I never get to see my baby and am always amazed at how much she has grown when I finally get to take it off to give her a bath. I want to be able to cuddle her and have a good nursing relationship with her again.

It is so hard to nurse with her in the harness, neither of us are comfortable and she eats until she is good enough but not full and than stops. I get 5 minutes nursing sessions out of her. She doesn't want to comfort nurse because she is so uncomfortable nursing in the harness, so Clayton got her to take a nuk. She's not very fond of it, but already pretty attached to it and it's only been 2 days. She likes to spit it out before falling asleep (which I takes as a good thing). She did lay and nurse and comfort nurse for about an hour and napped on the breast for quite awhile.

Ultrasound and appointment next Tuesday. Hopefully that will show us that she is well on her way to being tightened up. 2 Month appointment next Monday. She's getting all the regular shots and the Rotavirus drink. I wanted to delay the HepB till she was older but unless I want to get all of her shots done separately, I need to get her the HepB. I'd personally like to do less pokes. I want her to get all the vaccines, the HepA, MMR, and Varicella will be waiting until after age 2. MMR & Varicella probably will wait until she starts school.

She was 9lbs 15oz at 6 weeks, so it will be interesting to see how big she is now! I checked her chart from that appointment and it said 54cm which is 21.26in. 2.26in since birth and 2lbs 15oz!
