a Poopy update

It's been awhile since we've updated last. We've been quite lazy with this journal lately.

First off, I wanted to update on Maddox bowel movements (lol). Since he was about 2 months old we've had issues with him not being able to poop frequent enough and then when he does, they are hard and he has a really hard time getting them out.

After not pooping for over a week and struggling to for 3 days, Maddox finally did get something out on Friday. After that, he still had more in him and a large mass on the left side of his belly. He continued to struggle all Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Sunday afternoon the poor boy was in tears as he was trying to go again so we called the clinic and brought him to be checked out. The mass he had on his left side was even larger and now Maddox required an enema. Sunday night we started him on the prescription Miralax and gave him an enema. About 45 minutes after the enema, he pooped. He ended up bruising his butt in the process. :(

The good news is that Wednesday afternoon he went again on his own and it wasn't hard and he has gone today as well. I think the two jars of mandarin oranges that I bought him are helping alot too. We were supposed to give him another enema on Tuesday, but we didn't get a chance to and because he went on his own on Wednesday, we didn't have to give it.

Hopefully he keeps this up. He has a doctor's appointment on the 4th of September. Hopefully he will be able to eat normal foods after that. Right now he can not have any thing with Dairy. No milk, no cheese, no yogurt, etc. He cannot have Apples or Banana's and he is supposed to eat high fiber foods. We already try to buy him products that have a high amount of Fiber in them, but we've never restricted Dairy (limited cheese of course). He really wants cheese and yogurt though and hopefully he will be able to eat those again... soon!

We had to bring Maddox into the doctor the week before too. Not for pooping issues, but he has been rubbing his eye for months. He rubbed it non-stop, all day long for the first month, took about a week break and then started rubbing again. Something that his Grandma Diane wears or gives off (her dander?) causes Maddox irritation. He reacts the same way at our friend's, Krista, house and when the doctor came in the room. He also reacted really bad when we went to the MN Zoo on August 12th. He is on a trial of Zyrtec, which has actually been working great! He also has a sample of some eyedrops (can't remember the name right now), but he's only had to use those once. He has two prescriptions (one for the Zyrtec and one for the eye drops) and I'll be filling both of them. He had a runny nose the other day when Grandma Diane came home, but other than that, he's been runny nose and itchy eye free since he started the meds!

Anyways! Not a whole lot else is going on. His vocabulary is growing so much! You can tell when he is learning new stuff because he starts to stutter a little. But he says the most interesting things and his newest thing is "I have an idea!" He also tells me "If you want to play trains, you can!" and he will continue to tell me "you can! you can! you can!" until I play with him. He also comes up with really creative plans - like when we all wanted Dairy Queen and Maddox just wanted to stay home and play with Grandma Diane... He said that it would be "OK" if Mommy and Bepaw went to Dairy Queen. He didn't want anything, he just wanted Grandma to stay home. So Uncle, Bepaw, and I went to Dairy Queen while Maddox and Grandma stayed home to play "Croquet Ball".

But now onto the pictures! I know that is why you all *really* come here!
